On Tuesday September 13, 2022, God called one of his angels home.The Lord said "Well done my good and faithful servant". "You have been faithful over a few things, come on up a little higher. I will make you ruler over many". Rev. Everhart Walker, aka Preacher and the Godfather was born August 1, 1935 in Boyle County, to the late General Lucian Walker and Mary Fitzgerald Walker. He was preceded in death two brothers, Robert Walker and Lucian Clark Walker; three sisters, Gertrude Wheeler, Clara Mae Tibbs, and Dorothy Powe.
Rev. Everhart Walker was called to preach in 1955. He preached his first sermon at St. John's AME Church in Versailles, KY. He was ordained Iterient Elder in 1960 by Bishop Ernest Lawrence Hickman at Monticello, KY. He served the following charges, Mayo, Salvisa, Lawrenceburg Circuit, Jacobs Chapel AME Church, Stanford, KY, Bethel AME Church, Bonneyville, KY, St. John AME Church, Greenup, KY, Davis Chapel AME Church, Somerset, KY, Mt. Zion AME Church Frazier, KY, St. James AME Church Danville, KY, Allen Chapel AME church, Moreland, KY, and St. Andrews AME Church, Lancaster, KY.
Rev. Walker served as Presiding Elder of the Greater Lexington District of the Kentucky Annual Conference from June 1987 until September 1991. He was very active in the Episcopal District, He pastored for 54 years and after retirement he continued to do Evangelist work whenever called on. He was always concerned about the young ministers coming into the conference. He worked to help them get promoted. Every church he pastored he loved his congregation and worked with them to make the church grow and keep them in step with God.
Rev. Walker was very active in the community and with many organizations. In 2019 he received the President Service Award. He also was a Kentucky Colonel. He was devoted to his family and always loved family gatherings. He made friends with everyone he came in contact with, his smile was so contagious.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving, devoted wife of 66 years, Barbara Penman Walker of Danville, KY; two daughters, Debra Mays of Louisville, KY and Delphine Jackson Foster of Elizabethtown, KY; a son, Everhart Walker, Jr. of Danville, KY; and one sister Theora Heggs of Accokee, MD; grandchildren, Tony Mays, Teddy Mays, Latisha Ann Jackson, Krystal Jackson, Deliah Foster, Jessica Fibbe, Larrisa Hartley, and Everhart Chase Walker, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon Tuesday September 20, 2022 at St. James AME Church in Danville, KY with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, KY.
Active pallbearers are Bill Heggs, Anthony Mays, Teddy Mays, Everhart Chase Walker, De-Andre Mays, and Tevin Smock.
Honorary pallbearers are The Ministers of the Kentucky Conference.
