Mary Meaux

December 23, 1940 — April 1, 2020

Mary Lucille Meaux, age 79, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY.

She was born on December 23, 1940 to Ethel and Samuel Gooch in Lincoln County, Kentucky. As the baby of six, she grew to love all. She was a home maker and a food service worker. She loved to sew, cook, bake, talk on the phone and make others happy. She was a loving person and a joy to all who enjoyed sitting on her porch. Most of all she loved the Lord.

She accepted Christ at a young age under the Pastoring of Bishop A.R. Smith where she served for many years as a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, a member of “Lend a Hand Club” and other various capacities under the Pastoring of Bishop Larry Weathers in Church of God of America Inc. In her later years, she spent time traveling back and forth to West Virginia supporting Bishop Eunice Jones at God’s House of Miracles where she was consecrated as the General Mother of the organization.

She devoted her life to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Lee Meaux and her first born, Stephon Emanuel Penman. She encouraged her kids to go to college, further their education, and to always be the best they could be. She dedicated her time to raising her grandkids, dragging them to church and always encouraging them to know God and spread His love.

She was a selfless woman of strength and courage who was willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. We will cherish her phone calls, smiles and laughs and her many photo memories.

She leaves to cherish her memory Lisa (Gary) Johnson, Libby (Robbie) Parks, and Wanda (Tony) Wilson; two brothers, Leon (Gladys) Gooch and Samuel (Sadie) Gooch; four grandchildren, Isha Ruey, Isaiah Screetch, Dakota Daugherty, and Keneisha Johnson with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A private funeral will be held on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. A private burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The funeral service will be live streamed on Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home Facebook page for public viewing.

A public memorial will be held a later date.
