Leonard "Lennie" Shepperson, Sr., 66, retired Director of Danville-Boyle County Emergency Management passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at his residence.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and spent 17 years working in industry management before joining Disaster and Emergency Services in April of 1987 and retiring in May of 2013. Shepperson has served as chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, a member of the Kentucky Emergency Response Commission and a member of the BGADD Homeland Security Council and Regional VP of Kentucky Emergency Management Association.
For nearly 20 years he served as a member of the Boyle County Fire Department and Boyle County Rescue Squad. He served as Vice Chairman of the Boyle County Fire Board, on the local Red Cross Board and as Casey County Deputy Sheriff and Casey County Constable. He loved serving others and doing everything he could for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Patricia "Patsy" Horton Shepperson; three children, Leonard "Len" (Kristi) Shepperson, Tracy (Scott) Terry, and Jason Shepperson; and seven precious grandchildren Savannah, Logan, Dakota, Morgan, Tyler, Abby, and Landon.
He was preceded in death by two children, Tony and Leslie; his parents, Tom & Anna Mae Shepperson; and a brother Ricky Shepperson.
The. funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Faulkner Station Road, with the Rev. Jimmy McPherson and the Rev. Steve James officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Logan Shepperson, Dakota Terry, Morgan Shepperson and Abby Terry/Dale Knight; nieces and nephews, Shana Richards, Telisha Spears, Doug Shepperson, and Richie Shepperson. Honorary pallbearers are Fire Department and EMS/EM personnel.
Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Saufley Post #18. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Memorial donations are suggested to Gethsemane Baptist Church
