Gary Franklin Powell, 68, of Danville died Thursday, September 19, 2013. He is the husband of Sally W. Powell. Born February 21, 1945 in Lexington, Kentucky to Chester and Geneva Powell.

Gary served as the pastor of churches in Dalton, GA; Frankfort, KY; Columbia, SC; Little Rock, AR; Oklahoma City, OK; Burlington, NC; Baltimore, MD, and Harrodsburg, KY. Gary was a member of the Southland Christian Church, and served as the director of Hand Up Group and Harvesting Hope Food Pantry in Danville. He was the first director of Big Brothers of Frankfort, KY. Along with his wife and parents, Gary is survived by two daughters Rhonda (Bryan) Wood and Jennifer (Derek) Hawkins, seventeen grandchildren: Amber, Chelsey, Natalie, Courtney, Kaitlin, Mackenzie, Corbyn, Lawsyn, Alayna, Braydyn, and Jaxxyn Wood. Alexandra Michaela, Cierra, Jeleena, Zander, and Petra Hawkins, two great grandchildren Aiden and Ashton Sellars, two sisters Ruth (Bruce) Kingkade and Marcia (Craig) Callihan, a brother Jim (Jamie) Powell and brother & sister-in-law Danny (Sandy) Fields. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m., Monday with Mike Breaux, Don Hill, Harold McLaren, and Dave Rizer officiating at Southland Christian Church, Danville. Pallbearers will be Chigger Flynn, Bryan Wood, Derek Hawkins, Corbyn Wood, Rodney Fields, and Danny Fields. Honorary pallbearers will be the Spirit Lifters of the Carpenters Christian Church, Danville, Ky. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday at Southland Christian Church.
