Ernest N. Smith, 86, of Stanford, KY passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at U.K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Born January 17, 1927 in Paint Lick, KY to the late John L. and Lena Rogers Smith, he was the widower of the late Frances Rose Smith, a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division, a retired employee of Kentucky Utilities Company, and a charter member of Willow Grove Baptist Church where he was the song leader from 1950-1975.


Survivors include two sons; Henry E. Smith (Darlene) and Randy Smith (Kathy), one daughter; Becky Kana (Mike) all of Stanford, KY, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a very special friend; Dorothy Robbins. He was preceded in death by seven brothers; Willie J., Harmon, Frank, Wesley, Garnett, George, and Elmer Smith, and four sisters; Beulah Watkins, Lizzie Rhodus, Vena Rhodus, and Mary Mae Smith.


Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 11am. Both services will be held at Willow Grove Baptist Church. Reverends Johnny Thompson, Lewis Walters, Owen Edwards, and Dale Denton will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers are: Jason Smith, Patrick Kana, Terry Dyehouse, Chris Dalton, Ronnie Smith, and Scott Young. Honorary bearers will be: Johnny Smith, Bobby Smith, Billy Wayne Smith, Johnny Rhodus, and J.M. Watkins. Spurlin Funeral Home (Stanford) is in charge of the arrangements.
