Elizabeth E. Waits Chambers, age 100, of Corbin (formerly of Danville) died Monday, February 22, 2021. She was born February 9, 1921 the daughter of Luther T. Waits and Mary Florence Waits of Parksville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elwood C. Chambers, daughter Sandra Kay Chambers, brothers Ira (Chuck) Waits, Edwin (Ed) Waits (Geraldine), Luther Waits Jr., Edmond Waits and son-in-law Allen C. Trimble of Corbin. Elizabeth is survived by daughter Sherry Chambers Trimble, grandson Graham C. Trimble (Marianne), and great-granddaughters Reagan, Samantha, and Lauren Trimble (all of Corbin).
Elizabeth graduated from Parksville High School in 1940 and for years enjoyed attending the Parksville High School reunions. In 2016 Elizabeth received the Outstanding Parksville High School Alumni Award.
Early in her marriage she lived and worked in Morganfield, KY, Anniston, AL, and Jeffersonville, IN before returning to Danville with her husband Elwood. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was employed as a Standards & Engineering Clerk for Genesco for 33 years. She was also an award-winning writer for the Genesco Corporate newspaper in Nashville. As a member of Danville’s West T. Hill Community Theatre Actors Group, Elizabeth loved working and acting in their productions. She loved reading, playing the piano, fishing, country music, watching NASCAR, and travel. As a life-long learner she was motivated to learn the German language after a trip to Europe. She loved to practice her German language skills on all her family and friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home with burial in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
