Died December 02, 2011
Derik Neal Burkhead, 38, of Danville died Dec. 2, 2011, at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center, Lexington.
Born July 31, 1973 in Lexington, he was the son of Jeneal Walter "Hooter" Burkhead of Campbellsville and the late Wanda Gail Pendygraft Burkhead. He was also the grandson of the late Ira Bee and Frances Pendygraft and Rubin and Lydia Burkhead.
Derik was a graduate of Boyle County High School and a member of Shelby City Baptist Church.
He was born with Marfan's Syndrome. Whether he was going into surgery or trying to accomplish an everyday task, he never complained. He kept a smile on his face and let his love glow to the very end. He always said he was in a win win situation - that he would wake up from surgery with his loving family to great him or he would wake up in heaven with his Lord and his Mom.
Derik befriended many people and leaves a lifetime impression on every person he ever met. He loved all his friends and family and never left anyone without telling them he loved them. Derik loved God and was a great witness for Him.
In addition to his father, he is survived by several loving aunts and uncles, including Ann Wesley (Winfred} of Junction City and Larry Pendygraft (Debbi) of Moreland, and many loving cousins.
Derik's service will be at Noon on Wednesday Dec. 7, 2011, at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City. Rev. Paul McFarland will officiate. Burial will be in the Danville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joey Wilson, Jeremy Williams, Chris McAfee, Jeremy Smith, Jan Burkhead, Scott West, Randy Williams and Josh Rodgers. Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Tuesday at the Stith Funeral Home, Junction.
The family requests donations to the Marfan Syndrome Foundation.
