Anna Byrd

Anna “Moma Byrd” Gordon Byrd, 83, of Junction City, passed away September 2, 2021 in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on April 8, 1938 in Marion County to the late Andrew “Buck” Gordon and Ella Setters Dobson. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Byrd and their stillborn son, Chester Lee Byrd.

Anna was born into a large family, being the only girl of 10 children. She was lovingly referred to as “Sissy” by her closest family and friends. “Moma Byrd” was the matriarch of the vocal group, the Singing Byrds, who travel nationally. And the co-founder of Bride of Christ Ladies Retreat. She was an honorable Kentucky Colonel and LCGMA Lifetime Award recipient. She was a minister and evangelist, whom spread God’s love.

Anna loved her church, Hilltop House of Praise in Waynesburg, Kentucky. Reading her bible, and making sure her family and friends were always fed and taken care of. She loved her flowers, cardinals, but her family and serving the Lord, was “Moma Byrd’s” life.

Surviving are two daughters, Jeanie Byrd Bailey (Ferrell) of Danville and Elizabeth Byrd Montgomery (Johnny) of Junction City, granddaughter, Loretta Byrd of Stanford, two great grandchildren, Jaqualyn Baker of Lily, Kentucky and Chestan "Jake" Baker (Alissa Summers) of Richmond, Kentucky and the late Emmalie Jade Baker and a step son, Charles Edward Byrd of Tennessee.

Anna was also preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew, Charles, William, James, Johnny, George, Edward Gordon and Harold and Samuel Mounce.

Funeral services will be 1:30pm Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Martin and Minister Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, September 6, 2021 from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chestan "Jake" Baker, Ferrell Bailey, John Gordon, Rebel Sears, David Stephens, Billy Reed, Chase Neikirk and Ernest Lear.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Montgomery, David Byrd and Ralph Lyons.

Memorial contributions are preferred to the The Singing Byrds, Bride of Christ Ministries or the Blanket of Blue homeless and veteran outreach.
